      To keep all students safe, parents wanting to eat with their child should come to the main office and their child will be called to have lunch with them in the main office.

    • Where do students sit during lunch and how are they able to interact?

      6th grade teachers have assigned tables in the cafeteria where students sit with their core 4 teacher. Students may earn a coupon on their team to sit with their friends at lunch.

    • I was very involved at my child’s last school, how can I be more involved at Rogers-Herr?

      Please join our PTA to become a volunteer and/or team parent. You might also consider becoming a grade level parent on our School Improvement Team.

    • How does dismissal work?

      ~2:15pm, 6th & 7th grade bus riders are dismissed| ~2:17pm, Pathfinder carpoolers & afterschoolers are dismissed| ~2:19pm, Pioneer carpoolers & afterschoolers are dismissed| ~2:21pm, 8th graders are dismissed

    • How do you handle bullying?

      We take bullying very seriously. All reports of bullying made to teachers, administration, and/or counselors are investigated. Consequences are given when bullying occurs.

    • What do I do if my child is absent?

      When you know your child will be absent, email your child's teachers as well as lisa.richmond@dpsnc.net. Please turn in any documentation you may have on the day your child returns to school.

      Parents may add money to their child’s lunch account directly at the school or by visiting this link:

    • Can kids ride home with other kids on the bus?

      For a child to ride a bus they don’t normally ride, parents must sign & date a note that includes their first & last name, phone number, the first & last name of their child, the child with whom they’re riding, and the bus number.

    • May I select my child’s team?

      Our administrators and counselors work to ensure that teams are balanced regarding multiple academic and cultural differences. Therefore, we do not honor requests to be placed on a specific team.

    • May students interact with those not on their team?

      Students can interact with friends on the other team during lunch and electives.

    • How likely is it that 6th graders will be picked for a sports team?

      6th grade students may tryout for any sport except for football. That includes cheerleading, basketball, cross country, soccer, baseball, softball, and track/field.

    • Should my child have a cell phone? When would they be able to use it?

      Students may bring cellphones to school but can't have them out during the school day. They must be off and in lockers from 7am-2:20pm every day.

    • What should my child have on the first day?

      Any supplies requested by your child’s team, money for a combination lock, and a lunch or lunch money.

      It will vary by team and by teacher.

    • How many teachers will my child have?

      Six: One teacher for each core subject: Math, English, Science, & Social Studies, plus two elective classes.

    • How is AIG at RHMS different from AIG in elementary schools?

      Students who have been classified as AIG (Academically/Intellectually Gifted) take higher level English and/or Math classes. We also offer an Advanced Topics elective.

    • When can students access their lockers and what if they forget their locker combination?

      6th graders go to their lockers at 7:20am to get materials for Discovery and their Core classes. They go to their lockers again at 12:15 to pack up their morning materials and get what they need for electives. Our faculty are able to open the locks in case any student forgets their combination.
