Graduation Dates 2019

Durham Public Schools Graduations NCCU-MCDOUGALD GYMNASIUM

  • Durham Public Schools Graduations NCCU-MCDOUGALD GYMNASIUM

Schools are provided with an average of 10 tickets per graduate. This guarantees that we will have space for every graduate in Durham to invite up to 10 guests.  (Note that we will have fewer seats than the listed building capacity to accommodate the graduation stage.)

Schools create their own procedures to handle the distribution of tickets.

Schools may create a waitlist for students requesting more than 10 tickets.  Waitlist ticket requests are not guaranteed and may be filled according to procedures designed by the school.

Children age two and under who will remain seated on the lap of an adult for the duration of the graduation ceremony will not require a ticket.  Children over age two and those under age two who will require their own seat need to have their own ticket.

Guests who have requested handicap-accessible seating from their school will be issued a General Admission ticket prior to graduation. These guests are allowed to have one ticketed escort sit with them.  Upon arrival at graduation, these guests and their escorts will enter the venue together via the lower-level ADA entrance, provide their names, and exchange their General Admission tickets for ADA tickets.

DPS Employees who are attending the graduation as a guest or family member must have a ticket.

General Admission guests will enter McDougald Gymnasium from the upper level.
Guests who have requested handicapped-accessible seating will enter through the lower level.
Doors open one hour before the event start time.

Tickets are general admission and are not assigned to specific sections, rows, or seats. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.

Graduates and families should park in the Parking Deck across Lawson Street from McDougald Gymnasium.
Entrance to the deck is from E. Lawson Street.

At the request of North Carolina Central University, all graduation guests will go through a security checkpoint prior to entering the gym.

We encourage you to leave your bags in your car for faster entry times. Please allow extra time to get through security.

Graduations are designed to be formal ceremonies to acknowledge our graduates’ hard work. We ask that all families and guests be respectful of the other families and guests here to share this day with our graduates.

No balloons, flowers, confetti, silly string, sound makers, signs, posters, or items to throw onto the floor are allowed inside McDougald Gymnasium.

Please respect the dignity deserved for all seniors on this occasion by remaining quiet during the ceremony.  Every parent wants to hear the name of his or her graduate.

Please remain seated until all seniors and dignitaries have exited the Gymnasium.

If you lose an item during a graduation ceremony and would like to know if we found it, please contact Durham Public Schools Public Affairs at 919-560-3652.
