• If your child is entering Durham Public Schools, he or she will need to be up to date on Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis), polio, MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), Haemophilus influenza, hepatitis B, and varicella immunizations.

Rising seventh-graders are required to receive the MCV (meningococcal conjugate vaccine) and a Tdap booster shot if the students were not already vaccinated in sixth grade.

By state law, all North Carolina schools are required to monitor our students’ immunization records; only valid medical and bona fide religious exemptions to immunization are accepted in North Carolina. Without proof of immunizations within 30 days of enrollment, principals are required to suspend students from school until they have received the required vaccinations.

Talk with your child’s health care provider about these vaccines; this is also a great opportunity for a yearly checkup.

All 12th graders are required to have a meningococcal vaccine. The vaccine is for children 16 years of age or older.  If your student has not received this vaccine yet, please contact your primary care doctor or the Durham County Department of Public Health.
