    Durham Public Schools is ready for the 2022-23 school year with year-round schools opening for students Monday, July 18.  DPS’s year-round schools are Holt Elementary, Pearsontown Elementary, Easley Elementary, Rogers-Herr Middle, and The School for Creative Studies. 

    Durham Public Schools will now have 55 schools with the official opening of the new Lyons Farm Elementary School.

    In other back-to-school news:

    New Bell Schedules

    The Durham Public Schools Board of Education approved a new districtwide bell schedule for the 2022-23 school year. Efficiency, equity, and consistency will enable shorter bus routes and fewer delays, and there will be earlier start times for most elementary schools. The new schedule will standardize start times for elementary, middle, and high schools, with openings set at 7:45 a.m., 8:30 a.m., and 9:15 a.m., respectively. Secondary schools (grades 6-12, Durham School of the Arts, and The School for Creative Studies) will be on the same tier as middle schools, with openings set at 8:30 a.m.

    Kindergarten Enrollment Information

    Children who will be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2022 are eligible to register for Kindergarten. To learn more about kindergarten enrollment and school readiness, please visit https://www.dpsnc.net/domain/105

    New school

    Lyons Farm Elementary, 906 Scott King Road, Durham, will open its doors for the first time in August to the Lyons Pride! The school will serve pre-K through fifth grade.

    Parents Encouraged to Utilize PowerSchool Parent Portal

    Parents can go to www.dpsnc.net or call their child’s school for directions and updates on:

    • how to sign up for transportation
    • how to track your child’s bus
    • using the PowerSchool Parent Portal

    *Please note, prior to setting up a Parent Portal account, once your child is assigned a teacher, you will need to contact your child's teacher directly to obtain a letter with an access code and password unique to your child (see instructions for additional information)* 

    New Dress Code

    The Durham Public Schools Board of Education has approved updates to the current dress code policy to further underscore equitable educational access and its commitment to a safe learning environment. The policy has been updated to ensure that stereotypes, marginalization, or oppression of any group are not reinforced based on race, sex, physical/mental ability, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, cultural observance, household income or body type/size.
