    MRS. KRISTEN BERES

I earned my Bachelors of Dance and Fine Arts from East Carolina University in 2010 and have been teaching dance for over 10 years. I have trained in all styles of dance including jazz, contemporary, lyrical, ballet, hip-hop, musical theatre & tap. Over the years, I have worked at private dance studios as well as the public school system. Dance is my passion and it brings so much joy to my life.  I hope to inspire generations to come through dance. Outside of the dance room I can be found walking my dog, hanging out with my husband and traveling! I also enjoy learning how to cook and educating myself of healthy eating.

I enjoy being creative alongside my students and am always experimenting with different combinations of mediums in our art projects. I also like history, science, and learning about different cultures in my classroom. The fun never seems to end! I enjoy reading books, baking sweets and treats, quilting, singing acapella, taking my dog Charley for a walk (or does she walk me?!), watching Korean shows on Netflix, gardening and creating floral arrangements with flowers from my yard. I’ve spent 23 years working on my family history and enjoy helping others learn about theirs.

    BAND

                                                      Mrs. Derargy

    MRS. MELISSA DELARGY

I earned my Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in which I attended through academic grants and music scholarships, graduating in 2002. I am dually certified in both Elementary Education K-6 and Music Education K-12 in North Carolina. I earned my National Board Certification in 2007 in Early Adolescence Through Young Adulthood Music Perspectives with a specialty in Band. I have been teaching in public schools for 16 years, 7 at the middle school level as band director and the remaining years at WG Pearson Elementary School as their K-2 Music Specialist and 3-5 Band Director. I also have taught privately as well as at the Cary School of Music as clarinet instructor, Mars Music as Woodwind instructor as well as teaching small group percussion classes, and assisted with the Durham Youth Orchestra for several years. I also work with the company Pearson as a trainer on scoring national music projects. I am a member of MENC and Music k-8. My favorite subject is of course band! I love teaching the techniques of playing instruments, specifically with beginners! I find that teaching younger players is both interesting and challenging because younger players often face challenges older students would not encounter. This gives me the opportunity to find unique and creative solutions around problems and I love a good challenge!I have almost too many hobbies! I of course love playing and performing on my instrument, the clarinet and I specialize on the Eb soprano clarinet! I also love being outside! You will often find me hiking or tending to my garden. I have a butterfly garden, a rose garden, a tropical garden and an herbal garden. I am also super active! I enjoy weight lifting at the gym, yoga and can do acrobatic feats on the trapeze and aerial lyra hoop.
