Hospital School Preschool Program
As part of the Hospital School at Duke University Hospital, the Preschool Program offers developmentally appropriate, play-based instruction to Preschool-aged children (beginning at age 3 years) who are patients receiving treatment. The Hospital School is part of the Durham Public School system and our services are provided free of charge. Children do NOT need to be currently enrolled in school/daycare to receive services from the Hospital School.
Typically, the Preschool Teacher will be available to work one-on-one with your child in his/her hospital room for up to one hour per school day during the school year. Our goal is to help your child continue to make developmental progress and to provide a sense of normalcy in his/her schedule.
Once enrolled in the Hospital School, your child may continue to receive instruction after discharge during follow-up visits to the Duke Children’s Clinic and/or while residing at the Ronald McDonald House.
