Security Procedures at Duke

  • All guests will be subject to screening prior to entering Cameron Indoor Stadium and guests will not be able to bring bags into the venue.

    Please allow extra time to get through security. Doors will open 90 minutes prior to the start of the
    ceremony. 

    BAG POLICY

    Bags or purses of any kind (including but not limited to backpacks, duffel bags, tote bags, fanny packs, clear bags, drawstring/cinch bags, messenger bags, plastic grocery bags, camera bags, binocular bags, gift bags, etc.) are not permitted to enter Cameron Indoor Stadium for Durham Public Schools graduation ceremonies.

    The following will be permitted following screening:

    • Wristlets/clutches (with or without a strap) that fit in the palm of the hand (no larger 5” x 8” x 1”).
    • Bags for medical and/or childcare needs.

    Guests with wristlets/clutches may use any lane in the screening area. Wristlets/clutches should be placed in the provided bin for inspection.

    For the safety of all in attendance, bags/purses are not permitted to be left unattended outside Cameron Indoor Stadium. Unattended bags/purses found outside the stadium will be dealt with in in a manner deemed appropriate by stadium officials, including but not limited to disposal.  Durham Public Schools and Cameron Indoor Stadium are not responsible for loss of any unattended items.

    Accommodations for Medical and/or Childcare Needs

    Ticketed guests entering with bags for medical and/or childcare needs must use the designated Medical/Family Lane located at each gate screening area. Bags will be searched and tagged for entry into the stadium. 

    Signage and staff will be present to help direct guests to the Medical/Family Lane at each screening area:

    • Upper West Entrance Gate A – Far Left Lane
    • Upper West Entrance Gate B – Far Left Lane
    • North Entrance Gate C – Far Right Lane
    • Graduate Entrance – Far Right Lane

    ENTRY & SCREENING POLICY

    Following the best practices recommended by the Department of Homeland Security and National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security, Durham Public Schools and Cameron Indoor Stadium has implemented additional security measures for graduation ceremonies at Cameron Indoor Stadium.  These measures aim to provide a safer environment for all in attendance and improve the guest experience by expediting screening and entry into the venue for the ceremonies.

    All persons – ceremony staff, ticketed guests, and graduates – are subject to screening before entering Cameron Indoor Stadium. Walk-through metal detectors will be the primary means of screening. For guests who are unable to utilize a walk-through metal detector, hand-held metal detectors will be used with physical pat-downs as a final alternative option.  Any person who does not consent to screening will be denied entry into the stadium.     Screening areas are located outside all entrances to Cameron Indoor Stadium.  Tickets or credentials are required to enter the venue and should be out and ready to be checked by event staff as guests approach the screening areas.

    PERMITTED ITEMS

    The following items are permitted to enter Cameron Indoor Stadium for Durham Public Schools Graduations following screening. Guests with these items may use any lane in the screening area. Items should be placed in the provided bin or on the table at the screening lane for inspection and search.

    • Binoculars (no cases)
    • Cameras (no cases; any lens size)
    • Coats
    • Food & Beverages
    • Umbrellas (cannot be opened indoors)
    • Video Cameras (no cases)

     PROHIBITED ITEMS

    Durham Public Schools and Cameron Indoor Stadium reserves the right to deny anyone or anything from entering the venue. The following items are prohibited from entering Cameron Indoor Stadium:

    • Alcoholic Beverages
    • Artificial Noisemakers
    • Bags (per the Bag Policy guidelines above)
    • Balloons
    • Confetti
    • Coolers and Drink Containers (including empty bottles)
    • All Drones and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS; Duke University campus policy) – https://drones.duke.edu/policies
    • Flowers
    • Gift Bags
    • Hazardous Materials
    • Illegal Drugs
    • Large signs and items obstructing sight lines of other guests
    • Laser Pointers
    • Pets (exception: service animals)
    • Shoes with Wheels
    • Weapons of any kind (including pocket knives)
    • Wrapped Gifts

    Any prohibited items can be discarded prior to entry or returned to personal vehicles. For the safety of all in attendance, bags/purses are not permitted to be left unattended outside Cameron Indoor Stadium.  Unattended bags/purses found outside the stadium will be dealt with in in a manner deemed appropriate by stadium officials, including but not limited to disposal.  Durham Public Schools and Cameron Indoor Stadium are not responsible for loss of any unattended items.

    STADIUM RE-ENTRY

    Guests who exit Cameron Indoor Stadium will be subject to screening upon re-entry. A ticket is required for re-entry.
