County Economic Indicators

The North Carolina Department of Commerce uses four key economic indicators to measure economic health in the states 100 counties: Per Capita Property Tax Base, Median Hosehold Income, Population Growth, and Unemployment Rates.
The forty most distressed counties are categorized as Tier 1. The next forty most distressed counties are designated as Tier 2, and the 20 least distressed are designated as Tier 3 counties.
While Durham is a Tier 3 county, a significant portion of non-economically disadvantated households out out of DPS, meaning that the demographics of our student population more closely resemble that of Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties than than of any other Tier 3 county.
