    Dr. Kecia Rogers

As a native of Durham and a product of Durham Public Schools, I have more than twenty years of experience as an effective educator working in Durham Public Schools. I earned a Bachelor’s and Master's degree in Elementary Education as well as a Master’s degree in School Administration from North Carolina Central University. In addition, I earned a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from High Point University. I am happily married with two children. All of my experiences as a teacher, administrator, wife, and mother have prepared me for the challenging yet rewarding profession as an inspiring visionary and strong instructional leader.

One of the first things you will notice about me is that I am very much a teacher at heart and by action. First and foremost, I believe school is about students and learning. Everything we do and the decisions we make are based on our students’ needs. I love children and enjoy being in the classroom. I am a servant leader and view myself as a leader of leaders. Students, teachers, families and the community should be inspired and empowered to act within a school community. Leading with my heart, head and hands are key characteristics of my leadership style.

As an instructional leader my mission is to put students’ needs first while promoting academic excellence and closing achievement gaps. Fostering a collaborative learning community in which all stakeholders problem-solve and analyze data to meet the individual needs of every learner is my commitment. Consistent two-way communication between school, home and the community are key to our success.

My personal mantra is to Engage Students, Support Staff, Involve Parents, Accept No Excuses, & Pass it on! I look forward to our incredible journey, collaboration and partnership of continued overall excellence at Rogers-Herr Year-Round Middle School. Thank you in advance for your overwhelming show of support, input and partnership as we work together to ensure all students reach their maximum potential and continue to grow.

    Rams Rock!!!

    Tawauna Stewart

    Tawauna Stewart, 6th Grade AP

My name is Tawauna Stewart and I am humbled and honored to introduce myself as the 6th grade Assistant Principal at Rogers-Herr Middle School. I am entering my eighteenth year in education, sixteen years as a 5th grade math and science teacher before moving into an administrative role. I have two amazingly intelligent and beautiful daughters, Jasmyn and Jaylah, who have decided to follow their mother’s footsteps in education.

The middle school years are important and critical times for students. During these years, it is what happens here that will have a permanent effect on their growth and development.  My goal as Assistant Principal is not only to provide leadership to promote a secure and respectable classroom atmosphere in order for your child to receive the best possible academic instruction, but also to support your child academically, socially and emotionally.  I believe in open communication and a strong home to school connection.  My philosophy is that every student is equipped with an inherent value.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University, Master in School Administration from North Carolina Central University and I am entering my second year at High Point University where I am currently working towards my Doctorate in Educational Leadership.  Spending time with my family and in the gym are areas of focus for my leisure time.

I am excited about all that we will accomplish working together.  Feel free to contact me at any time with any celebrations, questions or concerns you may have during this great 2019-2020 school year.  My email address is Tawauna.Stewart@dpsnc.net.
