Durham Public Schools offers families calendar as well as program options among its Magnet Schools. There are both Elementary and Secondary year-round schools.
Features of the magnet school include:
Operates on a year-round calendar with three-week breaks between each nine week instructional period, and a five week break during summer

Lottery Assignment Priorities
Students domiciled in the Easley attendance zone have automatic enrollment to the school, and do not need to apply through the lottery process. Only students domiciled in the region of eligibility (the attendance zones of most of Eno Valley and Hillandale Elementary Schools (please see map at http://gisweb2.durhamnc.gov/durhammaps/DPS/viewer/index.html) are eligible to submit a lottery application.

Language Academy -Spanish and Mandarin Chinese and Year-Round Calendar
Holt Elementary is a year-round calendar and a program magnet school. The year-round calendar is ideal for sustained exposure for learning another language.
Features of the magnet school include:
- All students study an additional language (Spanish or Mandarin Chinese) beginning in Kindergarten with the opportunity to become conversational in that language by the end of grade 5
- Global cultures integrated into core curriculum for greater understandings of the world and its people
- Operates on a year-round calendar with three-week intersessions between each nine week instructional period, and a five week break during summer
- Student camps may be available during the fall, winter and spring intersessions depending on the school
Lottery Assignment Priorities
Students domiciled in the attendance zone have automatic enrollment and do not need to apply through the application and lottery process.
Students in the region of eligibility are those students domiciled in the attendance zones of Eastway, Glenn, Little River, Mangum, Merrick–Moore, Oak Grove and Spring Valley. Lottery assignments are made in the following order: Sibling Attending Holt Elementary, Siblings Attending Another Calendar Magnet School, General App Pool with in the Region of Eligibility, General Pool Outside the Region of Eligibility, Program Link priority for Holt 5th grade applicants applying to Shepard IB Magnet Middle or Calendar Link priority for 5th grade applicants applying from Holt to The School for Creative Studies.

Creative Studies Program Magnet and Year-round Calendar
The School for Creative Studies is a small school established for grades 6-12 that operates on a year-round calendar. The school and classroom environments are collaborative in nature and designed to prepare students for a thriving creative economy.
Features of the magnet school include:
- Innovative classroom instruction that encourages the development of creativity and collaborative problem-solving skills
- Program of study features a variety of options for students to customize their creative education. Coursework selections may include media and broadcasting, film making, documentary studies, writing and journalism, graphic design and marketing, digital music and audio production and other creative areas for which there is demand in the job market
- Regular student interaction with creative and design experts from the community incorporated into the instructional program through opportunities including field visits, internships, classroom presentations and artists-in-resident programs
