Hi! I'm Paula Ray and I love teaching 4th grade math! This is my 22nd year teaching at Mangum. Although I live in Creedmoor with my husband and 2 children, I feel very much like a member of the Bahama Community. My husband, Richard, is a Battalion Chief with the Durham Fire Dept and actively volunteers in the Creedmoor Fire Dept. My daughter, Jenna, is a sophomore, and my son, Evan, is in 7th grade. I am a graduate of East Carolina University where I majored in Elementary Education and Child Development. I spend much of my time outside in the yard or by the lake. I love to hang out with family and friends, and much of my time is dedicated to taking care of my precious mother who has dementia. My favorite things about teaching: making sure every child feels loved and valued, helping each child recognize their unique strengths, and watching learning happen first hand! It's going to be a great year!
My name is Kayla Roberts, and this is my second year teaching at Mangum Elementary. I grew up in Bahama, NC and attended Mangum Elementary School in kindergarten through fifth grade. I decided in fourth grade that I wanted to be a teacher, and I have not changed my mind since. I graduated from Meredith College with a bachelor of psychology and a NC kindergarten through sixth grade teaching license. I student taught in Wake County and taught second grade last year. I am married with three fur babies; I have a bunny named Stuart, a labrador retriever named Eliza and a goldendoodle named Lily. I love going to Carolina Beach with my husband and enjoying some relaxation with my toes in the sand. I love drinking coffee, spending time in my garden and cooking, from scratch. I also have four nieces and a nephew that are my world.
Hi! I am Christy Wright and I am proud to say this is my 11th year at Mangum but my 23rd year of teaching in Durham Public Schools. There is nothing better than being a part of the Mangum family and community. I graduated from Northern High School, UNC-Greensboro and UNC-Chapel Hill. I earned my AIG certification at Duke and have National Board Certification as well. I have been married for 31 years and have two children in college. Zack is a junior and plays lacrosse for Mars Hill University. My daughter Bailey will be a freshman this year at East Carolina, “Go Pirates!” If you’ve ever walked by my classroom you may have noticed my rather extensive Snoopy collection. It’s true; I do love Snoopy, but even more than that, I love teaching and learning with my 4th graders here at Mangum. It’s going to be a fantastic school year full of learning and fun times. I can’t wait to get started!
