    Benjamin F. Ward Scholarship, $10,000

    • Planning to attend a 4-year public or private college or university in North Carolina.
    • Minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
    • Demonstrated commitment to community service and family financial need.

    Citrix Scholarship, up to $20,000

    • Planning to attend NC Central University, Shaw University, or St. Augustine's University
    • Pursuing a major in computer and/or information science.

    Elizabeth Marie Roberts Scholarship, $8,000

    • Must be accepted into any public state university or college in NC, Watts School of Nursing, or Durham Technical Community College
    • Minimum grade of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
    • Demonstrated family financial need

    GSK Opportunity Scholarship, Up to $20,000

    • Be a U.S. Citizen for a minimum of one year
    • Reside in Chatham, Durham, Orange, or Wake counties for a minimum of one year
    • Be eligible to receive NC resident tuition costs
    • Attend a public state university or community college in NC
    • Demonstrate the potential to succeed despite adversity as well as an exceptional desire to improve himself or herself through further education or training

    Joseph Nystrom Working Student Scholarship, Up to $16,000

    • Working at least part-time while in school
    • Demonstrate financial need

    Juanita McNeil West End Scholarship, $2,000

    • Minimum GPA of 2.5
    • Demonstrate financial need

    NC American Indian Fund Scholarship, $1,000

    • Be enrolled in a state- or federally-recognized tribe (with documentation)
    • Demonstrate sustained involvement in the American Indian Community and commitment to American Indian concerns and initiatives
    • Have family residency in the state. 
    • Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
    • Plan to pursue a 2-year or 4-year undergraduate degree as a full-time student at an accredited public, private, or technical college or university

    Umesh and Usha Gulati Scholarship, $2,500

    • Graduating with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA
    • Planning to attend a 2- or 4-year technical school, college, or university. 
    • Demonstrate financial need

    Christopher Furr Scholarships (Northern High School students only)

    • Graduating senior
    • Demonstrates citizenship and responsibility in the school and community 
    • Involved in extracurricular activities
    • Minimum 2.5 GPA required
    • Requires acceptance into an accredited college or university

    Norma Russell Memorial Scholarship (Northern High School students only) 

    • Demonstrate citizenship and responsibility in the school and community
    • Involved in extracurricular activities
    • Minimum 2.5 GPA required
    • Requires acceptance into an accredited college or university

    Vanessa Louise Hall Memorial Scholarship (Northern High School students only)

    • Minimum 3.5 GPA required  
    • Service to school and community  
    • Participation in Athletic and/or Fine Arts Activities  
    • Moral Principles (e.g. kindness, friendship, concern, sincerity, loyalty, respect)  
    • Pursuit of Excellence  
    • Recipient must be unmarried and childless

    Baxter and Beth Teasley Scholarship (All DPS Students) - $3000

    • It is for a student meeting the “first generation” criterion, (i.e. neither of the recipient’s parents has obtained a bachelor’s degree). 
    • Minimum 2.75 GPA required.
    • Requires acceptance into an accredited four-year college or university.

    Carlton G. Miles Memorial Scholarship (All DPS Students) - $1000

    • Must be a senior planning to major in music or music education. 
    • Minimum 2.75 GPA is required. 
    • Requires acceptance into an accredited college (i.e. two-year, four-year or community college) or university.

    Dorothy Heatherington Memorial Scholarship (All DPS Students) - $1000 

    • Demonstrate leadership and extensive volunteer service in their school and community. 
    • Minimum overall GPA of 2.75 required.
    • Requires acceptance into an accredited college, university or community college. 

    Rachel Lawrence Scholarship (All DPS Students) - $3000

    • Graduating senior
    • Demonstrate leadership and volunteer service in their school and community. 
    • Requires minimum overall 3.00 GPA 
    • Requires acceptance into an accredited college or university or community college.

    Financial Aid via Military Service

    You may be able to get money for college based on your or your family members' military service.
