Magnet Information

  • George Watts Montessori is a magnet school within Durham Public Schools. We serve students in grades Pre-K through fifth grade. Students are admitted to our school by a lottery process. The lottery is open for Pre-K through fifth grade students. All applicants must fill out an application to be turned in to the Office of Student Assignment.

    Students must be four years old by August 31st to enter pre-k or five years old to enter kindergarten. The lottery takes place each January for the following school year.

    2019-2020 School Tour Dates

    Each Tour will begin in the school's Media Center and will last about an hour.  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SIGN-UP AHEAD OF TIME FOR A TOURPLEASE BE AWARE THAT IN CASE OF A DELAY OR SCHOOL CLOSING DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, TOURS WILL BE CANCELLED. Once you arrive for the tour you will be asked to sign in at the Media Center.  The application period for the 2020-2021 School year will open on January 6, 2020 and end on January 31, 2020 at 5:00pm (This application is completed by going to the website and completing the application completely online). The tour dates are as follows:

    • Wednesday November 13th 2019 @ 8:00am.
    • Wednesday December 4th 2019 @ 9:00am.
    • Thursday January 9th 2020 @ 8:00am.
    • Monday January 13th 2020 @ 9:00am.
    • Thursday January 23rd 2020 @ 8:00am.
    • Wednesday January 29th 2020 @ 9:00am.

    Pre-K students (only) attending George Watts or Morehead Montessori Elementary schools in 2019-20 school year will be required to pay a fee based on a sliding scale. Durham Public Schools is currently determining payment processing and procedures.  Guidelines will be available and published  for all prospective students/families by the January application period.
