Sherwood Githens Middle School is the home of the Raiders. Githens focuses on developing future ready scholars and our teachers challenge and support each student to reach their full potential. Our strong community partnerships, variety of academic programs and teaching that supports active learning every day creates an optimum choice for Durham families. History
Sherwood Githens Middle School was named in honor of Sherwood Githens for his career in science education, including volunteering to teach a physics class at Southern High School for several years. He was locally involved in science education, serving on the board of Trustees for Durham Tech, where he was appointed by the Durham County Board of Education.
We are currently a middle school serving students in sixth through eighth grade.
