Gwen Dorman - Principal

My name is Gwen Dorman and I’m proud to be serving as your principal. I have lived and worked in North Durham since 2004, after moving from Northern Virginia, where I began my teaching career in kindergarten and first grade. While at Holt Elementary, I taught all grades, including technology, before transitioning to Easley as their instructional facilitator. I joined the Mangum family in 2014 as our assistant principal, then principal in 2018. 

Outside of school, I am also the proud mother of Scarlett, who attends Durham School of the Arts and Lizzy, who is here at Mangum. My husband, Alan, and I enjoy travelling and home improvement projects. If this isn't enough to keep me busy, I enjoy time with my three dogs.

I earned my bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University and my Masters in Elementary Education from University of Mary Washington. After complete my national board certification, I am very proud to say that I earned my Masters in School Administration from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Go Tar Heels!

My vision for Mangum is to continuing focusing on growing the “whole child”, where academic success is just one step that guides our students to becoming who they are meant to be. Mangum focuses on a family atmosphere that gives children an education through engaged teachers, thriving art programs, peer engagement, health awareness and parent inclusion. I encourage anyone to come see the great things that are happening here at Mangum.

Tyler Steketee - Assistant Principal

Greetings Explorer Family,

My name is Tyler Steketee and have been serving as Mangum Explorers’ Assistant Principal since 2018. I am excited to be part of the crew and look forward to building lasting relationships within the Mangum community. Relationships are the foundation for success in serving communities and schools and they are very important to me. Not only are relationships important to me, but so is prioritizing family.  My wife, Cari Delmariani, and I have lived in Durham for 10 years after relocating from southwest Michigan. Our twins, Miles and Genevieve , are 4 years old and keep us very busy. As a family we try to be active in the community and love to be out and about in Durham. Whether it’s being outdoors on the Eno River with Romeo (our dog), dining in downtown Durham, catching a Bulls game at the DBAP, seeing Hamilton (we hope) at DPAC or getting dirty at the Museum of Life and Science with our kids, we love Durham and all it has to offer.

Both Cari and I have always worked in service oriented professions. Cari has been the Director of Programs at the Kramden Institute for several years. Through her work she has helped award over 50,000 computers to underprivileged students and families across North Carolina. In addition, she has worked with community members to provide digital literacy courses for adults and summer camps for middle school students. My work as an educator began in Durham where I taught 3^rd grade at Holt Elementary for 2 years. From their I moved to Wake County Public Schools. I had a wide range of experiences in Wake county teaching 2^nd, 3^rd and 5^th grade at Morrisville elementary, serving as instructional resource teacher for Apex Middle School, assistant principal at Scotts Ridge Elementary and my last stop before joining the Mangum team was as an MTSS Coach serving 16 Wake County Elementary and Middle schools. I have served as PTA vice president, organized a 5k fundraising event, and spent time as a baseball and basketball coach for various age groups. I enjoy working with families and community members to help create engaging programs and activities that excite and motivate students and their families.

I am eager to embark on this new journey as Mangum’s assistant principal. Customer service will be my number one priority, ensuring that every child and family enjoy the best experience possible at Mangum. I will work hard to advocate for each student, family and faculty member. I will be diligent in supporting our teachers in their efforts to develop and foster community relationships, provide rigorous, relevant instruction, and maintain a healthy work-home life balance.  To meet the high expectations at Mangum, I will strive for consistency and clarity in communication, passion and pride engaging families, caring and respect in developing staff, love and nurturing in bettering students. I believe we all play a role, no one more important that the other, and share an enormous responsibility in educating our children. I am excited to play my part and will do my best to support you in doing your part. I look forward to meeting each of you and learning as much about your students and their story as possible.

Sherry Bradford - Lead Secretary/Bookkeeper

I’ve been an employee with DPS for over three decades now. I am happy to begin my 5^th year with Mangum Elementary as Secretary and Treasurer.

I grew up in Northern Durham and I will be married to my husband, Russell going on forty years.  He too, is an employee of DPS.  We have one lovely adult daughter, April, the light of our lives!

When not at work, I enjoy outdoor activities such as swimming, listening to the birds, watching the wildlife, and relaxing from my back deck.  I enjoy caring for my horse, Lollie.  She is a chestnut Arabian and full of love and life! My husband and I enjoy our yearly winter vacation to sunny Florida.

I look forward to many more years here with the Mangum Family and Community.

Teresa Pelfrey - Data Manager

I have lived in Creedmoor for 2 1/2 years. I have been at Mangum Elementary going on 3 years. Previous, I lived in Hillsborough, NC for 28 years and worked/managed a family owned restaurant, The Village Diner, for 20 years. I was born in Durham. I like the beach, bowling, my family, (especially my 2 grandchildren) and my puppies (2 maltese). I enjoy being at Mangum Elementary, the students and the people of Bahama!
