About The School for Creative Studies Page
SCS is both a calendar magnet and a theme magnet. We operate on a year round schedule. Our school vision is: Creativity. Communication. Collaboration. Community. Our theme centers on applied creativity, media, design, and communication arts. The program of study features coursework selections including Digital Media & Design, Video Technology & Communications, Engineering, Computer Programming, Music & Audio Production, Visual Arts, Healthful Living/Outdoor Education, and Spanish.
As a small magnet school, we do not offer competitive NCHSAA sports. However we offer several club teams (including soccer and basketball) and unique extracurricular clubs.
How can my child become an SCS student?
Any student who is a resident of Durham County is eligible to apply to SCS. Students are placed solely through a lottery process.
SCS serves students in grades 6-12. Enrollment is limited to 100 students per grade. No students are placed after June 30th prior to the start of the school year.
The magnet application window opens during January of the year. Information about the next enrollment period can be found by visiting the Durham Public Schools Magnet Schools Website.
