Philosophy

The mission of Carrington Middle School is to bring students, teachers, parents, and community together to provide a safe environment where all students make continuous progress academically, socially, and developmentally.

We believe that:

  • All children can learn and make continuous progress.
  • Education is a life-long process that provides enjoyment and enrichment.
  • Classroom instruction should be meaningful and varied in order to meet the needs of all students.
  • Students should be equipped with academic competence, the ability to progress independently, and the capability to live and work cooperatively.
  • Learning is more than subject mastery; it is a process that is driven by reading, reasoning, communicating, and creating.
  • Students should have opportunities for career exploration and the skills necessary to function in a rapidly changing technological society.
  • Students should be provided with the knowledge and skills to make responsible choices.

Teaching

Carrington Middle School provides a comprehensive middle school curriculum to meet the needs of its early adolescent age students. The school strongly believes in the teaming approach and seeks to provide for its students a cohesive, consistent, nurturing atmosphere in which smaller cohorts of children can effectively achieve within a larger scope of the school. Our teams offer thematic units, interdisciplinary units, and an integrated approach to the curriculum so that our students can connect what they are learning across all classrooms.

We offer inclusion teams for our exceptional children's population. It is our belief that exceptional children should be taught in the least possible restrictive environment. Our staff is currently exploring new ways to make student assessment more authentic so that our students can better relate what they learn in school to the real world experiences and events they will soon face.

Our extra-curricular activities include a wide range of athletic, cultural, and club opportunities for our students. Our students are afforded the opportunity to participate in numerous field trip events so that we may broaden their experiences beyond the Carrington campus. Within school we offer a variety of exploratory classes to include Career and Technical Education, and Performing Arts. Our schedule allows our teachers the flexibility to block their time by creating opportunities to modify instruction to meet the changing needs of our students.

Carrington's faculty is committed to providing a quality education for all of our students. We believe in establishing an academic environment in which all students are constantly challenged with high expectations, but within an affective atmosphere that is loving and supportive for all.

Services for Academically/Intellectually Gifted Students

Carrington's Academically/Intellectually Gifted students are served within accelerated classes designed to promote higher-order thinking skills, as well as an advanced curriculum. Students receive these services in teams and enjoy a fast-paced, challenging learning environment with increased focus on reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
