Philosophy

Brogden Middle School's vision/philosophy is to foster the community towards life long learning, thereby challenging each student to reach his/her full potential. We offers a wide variety of academic and extracurricular activities all with the goal of developing self-disciplined and innovative thinkers.

Teaching

Brogden participated in the IBM Grant to re-engineer communication among students, parents, teachers, and the community, promoting a dynamic team approach to communication. We constantly encourage parents and community shareholders to sign onto the Web site. Information available consist of teacher and team Web pages listing upcoming events, homework, projects and resources.

Services for Academically/Intellectually Gifted Students

Brogden completed the pilot program for the school system's Academically/Intellectually Gifted program. AIG Language Arts serves students who have met academic criteria established by DPS. Students receive a level of services matched to their needs in one of three instructional settings: an AIG pullout class, differentiated lessons within a regular language arts class, or consultation. Qualification: a student must have met DPS criteria prior to the beginning of the fall semester. AIG math at the sixth grade level is called Advanced Math. It has an accelerated curriculum which combines mathematics objects of grades 6 and 7. At the end of sixth grade, students take an Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test. This places the AIG math students in the appropriate level for the following year and implements the next sequences of math. At Brogden students may qualify for Advanced Math, Algebra I and Geometry.
