Philosophy
The mission of Jordan High School is to provide students with the opportunity to explore a body of knowledge, to develop academic, physical, and social skills, and to practice thinking and decision-making processes in an open and orderly environment.
Teaching
Charles E. Jordan High School is a diverse school rich in traditions of academic and extra-curricular excellence. Jordan students are encouraged to seek excellence, and teachers utilize a variety of teaching techniques to address a variety of learning styles. Another important aspect of the academic program is the availablity of a wide variety of Advanced Placement courses. Jordan students can choose from more than 17 AP courses.
The school features career pathways in Agriscience/Biotechnology and Commercial and Artistic Production. Other components of the Jordan community that have won national and state awards include the marching band, show choir, DECA (marketing and business), FFA, FBLA, the foreign language program, and the school newspaper.
Athletics has always played a vital part in the Jordan community. Students can choose from men's and women's teams in more than 14 varsity and junior varsity sports. Jordan has received awards for overall excellence in high school athletics, and in past years the volleyball, women's tennis, and men's swimming, soccer, and golf teams have won state championships.
Services for Academically/Intellectually Gifted Students
At. C.E. Jordan High School, AIG students are served primarily through Honors level and Advanced Placement courses in English, Mathematics, Science, History, Music, Art and Foreign Language. The 10th-grade Honors World History and Honors World Literature courses are team taught using an interdisciplinary approach. Foreign language and world literature teachers offer trips abroad each spring to enrich course content. Students are encouraged to participate in opportunities such as Quiz Bowl, math competitions, band competitions, choral competitions, art contests, writing contests, academic clubs, and independent studies for enrichment.
