Philosophy
Hillside New Tech High School promises to effectively engage students in preparing for careers in engineering by using project-based learning with technology embedded in the projects. The school offers computer engineering and electronics courses, as well as advanced science courses in a variety of areas.
Our mission:
To create a 21st century learning environment that will ensure that every student achieves at high levels as measured by local, state, and national standards and be prepared for any post-secondary endeavor. We commit to developing a comprehensive system of support to attain this outcome.
Teaching
Engaging Students
The cornerstone of New Tech High is project-based learning. Instead of handing out daily assignments, teachers assign periodic projects with different components. Components may include a written essay and a digital project such as a Website, PowerPoint presentation, or photo essay. Finally, students are asked to present their work orally to their classmates, teachers, community and business leaders, and parents. Students work on these projects either individually, with a partner, or in a group.
Model Approach
New Tech High largely will be based on the highly successful New Technology High School model in Napa, Calif., many of whose graduates have gone on to successful careers in the well-known Silicon Valley, a world hub of technology.
Small Size
The school serves 100 students in each grade level. Its small setting will offer individualized attention, and a technology-rich environment that provides every student with a computer.
