Spring Valley is the newest school in the Durham Public Schools district. It opened on January 5, 2009.
Spring Valley is located in a beautiful pine grove off Sherron Road on the Northern Durham Parkway, near the Brightleaf at the Park subdivision, and near Research Triangle Park. Principal is Sylvia Bittle, a longtime Durham educator who most recently led Eno Valley Elementary School for several years.
The $15 million school was constructed with funds from a 2003 bond to relieve overcrowding at neighboring schools in southeastern Durham County, especially Oak Grove Elementary. It will eventually serve more than 600 students.
