Philosophy
The Oak Grove elementary faculty and staff believe that all students can learn and make continuous progress in our community. The Oak Grove faculty and staff sets high expectations that provide each student the opportunity to make significant efforts to meet and exceed educational goals . Oak Grove elementary is a caring, diverse community creating life long learners. Teachers strive to ensure that all students experience growth through creative instructional strategies reaching their maximum potential.
Teaching
The curriculum is differentiated to extend to the needs of each diverse learner. The use of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study is implemented in the teaching and learning process at each grade level. A balanced literacy approach is provided to students to assist them with the reading and writing process. The math curriculum is implemented through the use of Investigations and the use of math manipulatives. Students benefit from small group instruction through the, exceptional children's support service, Title I remediation, and volunteer programs to assist with instructional strategies to increase student achievement.
Special Services for Academically/Intellectually Gifted Students
Gifted services are provided to students who are identified though standardized testing. The AIG teacher and classroom teachers work together to provide a challenging curriculum that will allow student to go above and beyond the regular classroom instruction and to perform in depth studies in their own areas of particular interest. The AIG students are served by pullout, in class cluster groups, resource support, guided project and independent study.

From I-40:
Coming into Durham on I-40 East, exit at S. Miami Boulevard. Cross Hwy 70 onto N. Mineral Springs Road. Turn right onto Wake Forest Road. Oak Grove School is located on the right.
From I-85:
Take the Hwy 70 E exit toward Raleigh. Take the Hwy 98 exit (Holloway Street). Turn right onto Holloway Street at the light. Proceed east on Holloway Street (Wake Forest Highway) to the intersection of Mineral Springs Road and Wake Forest Highway. Oak Grove is located on the right.
