Philosophy
Forest View's mission is to develop and enhance each learner's potential, foster the growth of confident, creative problem-solvers, and promote life-long learning in a global community. Forest View is concerned with student achievement. We want all children to be challenged and to do their best.
Site-based decision making plays a critical role in the success of the school. School committees, community decisions, and parental input provide the governance team with information to make policy decisions that drive student achievement . We work hard to provide students with a meaningful education focused on students' interests and their particular learning strengths and needs. We focus on science which is used to integrate critical reading, writing, and mathematics skills into real-life lessons.
Forest View is part of the Research Triangle Schools partnership associated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We believe strongly that professional growth is critical in the improvement of student achievement.
An important goal of our school is to provide children with the life skills they need to live in an ever-changing world. We use the work of Nel Noddings, Stanford University, to frame our work with the caring curriculum. Teaching children how to care for themselves, their friends, and their families in a diverse world is essential for success in the 21st century.
Teaching
Forest View uses a variety of organizational plans designed to support the instructional needs of children and the instructional strengths of teachers. We have multi-age classrooms, looping classrooms where the teacher changes grade level with the students, and self-contained regular classrooms. We have pull-out and inclusion classrooms for students requiring differentiation of the curriculum. Children are given an opportunity to work together, take responsibility for their learning, and be challenged with a rigorous curriculum based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
Services for Academically/Intellectually Gifted Students
We have both traditional pullout and inclusion models to serve our academically/intellectually gifted students. We strive to meet the needs of all students on an individual basis.
