Great things are happening in DPS middle schools. Every one of them met expected academic growth targets last year. Our students met expected growth in reading, math and science in grades 6, 7 and 8. We had no low-performing schools.
We're not resting. We're accelerating our progress. We're offering new instructional focus areas at our Showcase (non-magnet) schools and launching new magnet programs. We're committing resources to build on your child's success in elementary school and prepare your child for the rigors of high school.
We are moving forward. We are Moving in the MIddle.

Showcase Schools
We are providing enhanced academic programs in four instructional focus areas at each of our non-magnet middle schools. If your child lives in the attendance area for one of the following schools, he or she will thrive in these programs. Each school's faculty and staff have worked together to develop and launch an instructional focus area for 2013-14:
- Brogden: Leadership Development
- Carrington: Global Connections
- Githens: Leadership Through Service
- Lucas: Project-Based Learning
New Magnet Options
We are continuously improving our middle school magnet programs to help families find the unique academic offerings that are right for their children. In 2013-14 we are expanding our middle school magnet school options by transforming Chewning into The School for Creative Studies and beginning new STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) magnet programs at Neal and Lowe's Grove.
