The Superintendent's Art Reception at the Staff Development Center honors the students whose art is being exhibited during the 2011-12 school year at the Staff Development Center and Morris St. The reception is Wednesday, November 2 from 5:30-6:30 pm. Dr. Becoats will award the certificates to the students at 6:00 pm. Riverside Strings students will perform from 5:30-5:55 pm.

The DPS Honors String Festival Concert is Saturday, March 17, at Durham School of the Arts' Weaver Auditorium. Our district-wide festival highlights the String programs at Brogden, Carrington, Rogers-Herr, W.G. Pearson Middle, Durham School of the Arts, Jordan, Northern, and Riverside. It will also showcase the Suzuki Violin program at Morehead Montessori and R.N. Harris Elementary, and the Guitar program at Durham School of the Arts.

Our second annual district-wide dance day event, Destination Dance, is exciting community collaboration. This year it is hosted by the North Carolina Central University Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and facilitated by Dr. Beverly Allen. Through master classes and informal performances, the DPS students and teachers will share dance experiences and come together as a greater dance community. Participating will be 100 elementary, middle and high school students from these participating schools with dance teachers: Merrick-Moore, R.N. Harris, Sandy Ridge, Durham School of the Arts, Jordan, Hillside, Riverside, and Southern.
