Are there policies in place regarding safety?

Since 1992, the Board of Education has had a strict Code of Student Conduct policy (Policy Number 4301) in place.  This policy requires each student to be responsible for exhibiting the highest standards of behavior.  The policy addresses standards for attendance, participation in instruction, respect of school personnel, respect of other students, respect of property, maintenance of a safe and orderly environment, conduct on a school vehicle, compliance with school rules, computer misuse, prohibition of gangs and gang activities, and student dress.

In 1999, the Board adopted a strict policy for weapons on school property.  The policy states that “Any person who in violation of state law brings a firearm or other weapon onto school property, possesses a weapon on school property, or encourages or enables another to bring or possesses any weapon on school property will be reported to law enforcement authorities.”  The Board also has policies that prohibit sexual harassment and encourage teaching particular character traits to support the efforts of families.  To read the policies, go to the policies section.
