Federal Stimulus Funds

Durham Public Schools and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)

One of the over-riding premises of the new Federal Stimulus funds (ARRA funds) is to ensure that there is public disclosure as to the use of those funds.

Ensure transparency, reporting and accountability. To prevent fraud and abuse, support the most effective uses of ARRA funds, and accurately measure and track results, recipients must publicly report on how funds are used. Due to the unprecedented scope and importance of this investment, ARRA funds are subject to additional and more rigorous reporting requirements than normally apply to grant recipients. – Excerpt from federal guidance related to ARRA funds -- http://www.ed.gov/policy/gen/leg/recovery/factsheet/stabilization-fund.html

Durham Public Schools is receiving over $23 million of ARRA funds to help our school district withstand the current economic crisis per the terms of the legislation.  All of our expenditures are reported monthly to the State Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and NCDPI is providing the required quarterly reports to the federal government on behalf of the North Carolina school systems.   In addition they will likewise be posting this data on their state website:  http://www.ncpublicschools.org/fbs/arra/.

On this DPS Website we will share our ongoing plans on how we will spend these funds and other information as updates are provided to the Board of Education.  If you have additional questions or require more information please complete a Public Information Request Form http://www.dpsnc.net/images/pdf/PublicInfoRequest.pdf
