Student Driver on Gregson Street in Durham

The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) requires 30 hours of  classroom instruction and six hours of behind-the-wheel training.

All Durham County students who are at least 14 ½ years old and are enrolled in  a public, private, charter, or home school are eligible to take driver education in Durham Public Schools. Students wishing to take driver education must be eligible to receive an driver eligibility certificate.  Students who have failed two or more courses the previous semester are not eligible.

Instructions for On-Line Registration For Driver Education

  1. Look for "Pay For Your Driver Education Fee On-Line" (below)
  2. Another window will open so please make sure to turn off your blockers
  3. Click on DRIVER EDUCATION SITES
  4. Click on  HIGH SCHOOL  (should be the third down)
  5. Click Add To Cart
  6. Click Check Out
  7. You must SIGN UP FOR AN ACCOUNT. Once an account is created you must Add Student Profile  (lets us know who Is taking it) STUDENT PROFILE – PUT  LAST FOUR DIGITS OF STUDENT’S SS#
  8. Then once that is done Click the Select Student Profile to your child's name
  9. Then follow directions of Address and Payment Information Debit or credit cards are the only forms of payment
  10. Students need to bring their "Order Number" printed out on the first day of class.

A $45.00 fee is now required to be paid before a registration form is processed.  Students that are dismissed from driver education class due to behavior or attendance problems will not be allowed to take driver education a second time through Durham Public Schools.
