Your 4-year-old child may be eligible to attend Durham County’s NC Pre-k, Head Start, and/or Durham Public Schools. These programs all work to prepare at-risk 4-year-olds for Kindergarten.

Children must be four years old on or before August 31 of the service year to be eligible for pre-K programs.

Currently, the Title I and NC Pre-K seats for DPS are filled. However, if you are still interested, please call 919-560-3505 to have your child placed on the wait list.

Exceptional Children’s Programs

Children ages 3-5 years old who are determined as qualifying for Exceptional Children programs will receive specific service delivery based upon the Individual Education Program (IEP).

Montessori Preschool (Watts and Morehead Magnet School)

The Montessori curriculum includes a Pre-Kindergarten component.  Parents interested in having their children attend a Montessori school must apply through the magnet schools lottery.  Space is extremely limited due to the small size of these schools.
