Local Scholarships
The Treasure Trove in Your Backyard
There is a great deal of scholarship money out there!
On a national level, there are hundreds of thousands of scholarships worth a total of more than one billion dollars. More than $100,000 in scholarship funds is provided for Durham students yearly. Start your scholarship search in your "own backyard" because fewer students apply for local scholarships so they are generally easier to win than national awards.
Durham Public Schools Scholarship Foundation is a good place to start.
Visit the Guidance Office at your school. Become familiar with scholarship newsletters, bulletins or files that are available at your high school. You may find even more scholarships, some local, by becoming a scholarship detective. Read the “Be a Scholarship Detective” to sharpen your detective skills.
Scholarship Tip: Be sure to learn about scholarships that are available ONLY to students from your high school. The applicant pool for these awards may be smaller than for other local scholarships.
