Superintendent's Message
Dr.D with Parent Durham Public Schools teachers, principals and additional staff members are dedicated to the academic success of your child. But key to ensuring that your children learn is to have them in school and on time each and every day.

It doesn’t take a doctorate in education to understand the fact that students who are in school every day get better grades, score better on standardized tests, and are more likely to go to college. That’s why the DPS Mind Your Future campaign underscores the importance of regular attendance to parents and the rest of the community. We ask that you help us in this effort.

Speaking of teacher dedication, our middle school teachers are embarking upon a professional development experience that promises to deepen their understanding of their students, helping them to strengthen relationships that will result in higher academic performance. Capturing Kids’ Hearts is a unique and innovative concept about which I am sure you will enjoy reading.

The improvements to our buildings and grounds over the past several years have been stunning. We are very happy to announce that children at 11 elementary schools now have safer, more colorful playgrounds for their outdoor activities and exercise.

These and other initiatives are only part of our continued efforts to provide your children with the support they need to be happy, healthy and ready to learn. We can only do this with your ongoing commitment and support. Thank you!
