Twelve DPS Teachers Head to Mexico
Visions: A Durham-Mexico Teacher Study-Travel Program is a year-long initiative that began in January 2011. With sponsorship from Duke University’s Office of Durham and Regional Affairs, and in partnership with the Consortium for Latin America and Caribbean Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University, 12 DPS teachers, representing six schools, have been in the process of engaging in action-research projects.
The initiative also includes an eight-day tour in Santa Elena, Mexico. The teachers will be leaving on Saturday, June 18 and returning on Monday, June 27. They will then participate in post-trip workshops and will have an opportunity to earn Continuing Education credits.
Participants are intending to develop a deeper understanding of the challenges Hispanic/Latino students and families face within the education system. They will share their gained knowledge of issues and solutions with the academic community.
