Hundreds of Teacher Appreciation Emails Pour In

Teacher Appreciation WeekNearly 1,000 parents, students and others sent emails expressing gratitude during Teacher Appreciation Week!

Each year, Durham Public Schools offers our employees, parents and community the opportunity to recognize teachers for the great work they do.  We asked parents, students and friends to send their favorite teacher(s) an email letting them know how much they appreciated them.

The following are but a few of the many examples of appreciation shown by the DPS community!

To: Crystal Simmons at Githens Middle School

Ms. Simmons, Thank you so much for your wonderful teaching this year. (My daughter) talks often about what a great teacher you are. She has learned so much. I wish all the teachers could be as fantastic as you!

To: Holli McLamb at Glenn Elementary

Mrs. McLamb, Thank you for all you do. I work with (my daughter) frequently and see the great work that she does as a result of her class work. More than the great work is the fact that you have made such a great impression on her, and she loves to come to school because of that. She told us that she did not want another break from school (after spring break). You have made learning so interesting to her and she is very thirsty to learn. She talks about you often and really loves her class. I am happy to say that you are a world-class teacher and we appreciate everything you do. You are organized and offer a variety of ways for the children to learn. We appreciate and salute you.

To: Ken Jones at DSA

Thank you very much for the incredible challenge in AP US History that you have provided (our daughter) this year. She has worked harder than I have ever seen her work; developed new, comprehensive study strategies; and learned an amazing amount about our country. I believe she is better prepared for the challenge that college will present as a result of your class and your high expectations.

To: Antonio King at Hillside High

A lot of times coaches do not receive the credit that they deserve off the field. You have made a difference in my son's life on and off the field. Continue to motivate the students and remind them that they must excel as students first. Thanks, Coach King! "ALL IN 2010."

To: Josie Lamb at Spring Valley Elementary

Hi Josie, For all the extra special things that you do, this is just my way to say Thank-You for all the work and dedication that you have given (my daughter) and other kindergartners this year! They say, “To teach is to touch a life forever” …and I must say that you have definitely touched hers! Thanks so much for helping me keep her "seeds" watered, and now all we have to do is sit back and watch her grow! Oh, how lovely!
