Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalists Announced

Durham Public Schools announces the 10 semi-finalists for the 2010 DPS Teacher of the Year.  These semi-finalists were selected from Teachers of the Year who were selected by their peers from the district’s 53 schools.

The 10 semi-finalists for Teacher of the Year are:

  • Layla Bakir, Grades 6-8 Math, Chewning Middle School
  • JeVar Bransome, Grades 6-8 Science, Shepard Middle School
  • Kristen Drum, Grades 6-8 Math, Carrington Middle School
  • Kathy Fields, Kindergarten, W.G. Pearson Elementary Magnet School
  • Emily Greenstreet, Grades 9-12 Science, Northern High School
  • Ashley Kennedy, First Grade, Fayetteville Street Elementary School
  • Christina Livingstone, ESL, Brogden Middle School
  • Rebecca Myers, Grades 6-8 Science, Rogers-Herr Middle School
  • Takesha Trapp, Grades K-5, Pearsontown Elementary School
  • Patricia Vanderhoof, Art, Creekside Elementary School

These semi-finalists will submit portfolios and will be interviewed during the month of March by a committee comprising former Teachers of the Year and DPS administrators. Four finalists will be announced in late March.  The committee will visit each of the four finalists for classroom observations in April.

The 2010 Teacher of the Year will be announced at a banquet sponsored by Triangle Orthopedics and North Carolina Specialty Hospital on May 5.
