Soccer Kids of America Looks for Teacher Advocates
Teachers…are you a soccer player? Do you have a passion for helping economically disadvantaged communities? Soccer Kids of America needs your help!
Soccer Kids of America is an afterschool program that teaches at-risk youth life skills including respect, diversity, integrity, perseverance, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle through an introduction to the sport of soccer. Soccer Kids of America partners with elementary schools defined as Title 1 schools with a large percentage of their students on the free and reduced lunch program. The program is structured to draw parallels between using the life skills taught on the field and off the field, at home and at school, giving the children tools to be successful in life. Upon graduation of the program the children receive their own soccer ball, a T-shirt, and the possibility of a scholarship to play on a team in an organized recreational league in their area.
We need teachers at any Title I school to volunteer to assist with our program as a primary point of contact for the children and the staff of Soccer Kids of America. Your help will be needed to:
- Establish scheduled day of week and time of day to conduct program.\
- Distribute and collect paperwork provided by SKA to 4th – 5th graders to sign up for the program
- Provide completed paperwork to SKA staff and be point of contact in event of weather cancellations.
- Possibly assist with the program after school.
