School Staff Members Invited to Meet the Author
On Sunday, May 16, at 3:00 pm at Holton Career and Resource Center, meet the author of “Whatever It Takes,” the book about how Harlem closed its achievement gap. Join the East Durham Children’s Initiative for a talk by Paul Tough, New York Times Magazine editor and author of Whatever It Takes: Geofrey Canada’s Quest to Change Harlem and America. Tough’s book tells the true story of Geofrey Canada, the creator of the Harlem Children’s Zone. Recently featured on CBS’ 60 Minutes, Geofrey Canada’s approach to "fighting inner-city poverty has attracted attention and praise from policymakers and educators across the political spectrum—including President Obama who has pledged federal funding to support the replication of Canada’s ideas through the creation of Promise Neighborhoods throughout the nation." Free and open to the public.
