Frost Receives National Recognition for Literacy Work
Anna Frost, Director of Secondary English and Language Arts and Literacy for Durham Public Schools has received the National Scholastic Heroes Award from the Scholastic Inc. book publishers.
The award was presented to Frost recently for her “support of literacy development and academic success for all students” at the corporation’s annual National Book Summit. Fellow recipients were Albert Dotson, Chairman of 100 Black Men of America Inc., who also was recently named as one of the most influential black Americans by Ebony magazine, and Dr. Patricia Edwards, Professor of Teacher Education at Michigan State University.
Frost holds a Master of Education degree in Literacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.A. in Secondary Education / English from the State University of New York at Oswego. She has served in her current role with DPS for four years. Before this, she was a middle school literacy coordinator, literacy specialist and language arts teacher. She was Teacher of the Year at Neal Middle School and a district semi-finalist in 2002-03.
