DPS provides Online Safety and Health Training through Risk Management Services

As of February 2010, Risk Management Services has implemented a district-wide Online Safety and Health Training Program. The program’s product name is SafeSchools and the courses are school-specific, authored by nationally renowned experts and endorsed by school districts nationwide.  Online training of all DPS employees enhances overall safety awareness, reduces staff training and travel time, and provides standardized training for all employee groups. The DPS online courses are a proven method that saves both time and money, and provides convenience for mandatory safety training. School Administrators, Central Service Managers and Supervisors are responsible for employee participation and compliance with various Federal and State regulatory requirements such as OSHA, EPA, and others.  Online Safety Training provides a tracking database for course completions by employee, school site and department. RMS works with Administrators and Department Heads to assure staff completion of assignments to work towards regulatory compliance for the district as a whole.

Reduce the Number of Accidents, Incidents, Injuries, and Associated Costs
Online courses are designed for comprehension of the subject matter as well as techniques for the direct application to the work and school environment. New hires, bloodborne pathogens at-risk employees, and campus emergency response teams have recently received online training assignments that help reduce the number of accidents, injuries, and their associated costs.

Create a Safe, Secure Educational Environment Conducive to Learning
Employee safety training promotes safety awareness and proactive safety measures on campus. Online Safety and Health training of staff reviews and reinforces safe work practices and school emergency preparedness, planning and response procedures. Staff safety training results in a safer school and environment for all students, staff and community.

New DPS Strategic Plan
Online safety training directly ties into the new Strategic Plan in the strategic area of Wellness & Safety. DPS Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT) online courses are currently being completed and future courses will be enhanced. Campus Emergency Response Teams (CERT) are critical to the effective facilitation of emergency related actions and response procedures. The training includes specific information regarding Incident Command Systems (ICS) and how designated school staff handles various emergency situations including severe weather, medical emergencies, fire, hazardous materials, and security related situations. This training provides a high degree of site based readiness of staff and students.

DPS Employee Assignments
Individual training plans are assigned for various employee groups, including principals, administrative staff, administrative departmental personnel, bus drivers, child nutrition, maintenance, specialty trades, etc. Training courses are job specific and cover subject areas within the targeted occupations. New or returning employees receive training assignments within two weeks of their start date, so pay close attention to an email from “DPS Risk Management Training”!  Thank you for your support and participation in our online safety and health training program which helps reinforce a safety culture within DPS.
