Comment on New National Standards
DPS teachers and other staff members have until April 2 to comment on draft K-12 standards that are a part of the new Common Core Standards Initiative, a process being led by governors and chief state school officers. The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO)encourage those interested in commenting on the standards to do so by April 2, at www.corestandards.org
These draft standards, developed together with teachers, school administrators and experts, seek to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce. The standards define the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education careers so that they will graduate high school able to succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing academic college courses and in workforce training programs.
