Fall Parent Advocacy Training
We are offering our popular parent training, Parent & Family Advocacy and Support Training (PFAST), on Wednesday nights this fall, starting September 29th from 6:00-8:00p.m. for six Wednesdays (skipping 10/20), concluding November 10th. This training is designed for parents K-12 with children in public schools (this includes charter schools). We welcome the participation of grandparents, guardians, foster parents, and any adult who is working to support a child in his or her education.
Topics covered include: parent involvement; school structure; school-family communication; parent-teacher conferences; testing—EOGs and No Child Left Behind; high school requirements; community resources, exceptional children, gifted programming, action planning and much more. Opportunities to earn Continuing Education credits and to participate in Parents As Leaders Academy leadership training are available to those who complete the training. Additionally each participant will receive a goodie bag at the end of the training. These workshops support you in building positive, productive relationships with your teachers and schools and support the success of your child(ren) and school. More than 300 Durham families have completed this training since 2005.
The training materials and refreshments are offered free of charge. Childcare is provided at a modest cost on a sliding scale for children 3-12.
