New for 2009-10: More Great Ways to Learn About Durham Public Schools
Durham Public Schools has more great ways for parents and community members to learn about our schools. There are two fairs, one featuring elementary magnet schools and the other with all middle and high schools. Schools also will hold open houses during the Showcase of Schools in mid-November until mid-December. And, for those who have incoming kindergarten students, there are kindergarten Welcome Sessions planned for this winter.

ELEMENTARY Magnet Fair
Learn about elementary school magnet and year-round schools
Saturday, November 14, 9 am until 12 noon
Hillside High School, 3727 Fayetteville Street
MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL Fair
Visit displays of All DPS middle and high schools (including middle and high school magnets)
Sunday, November 15, 1 pm until 4 pm
Hillside High School, 3727 Fayetteville Street
SHOWCASE OF SCHOOLS
Each school will hold at least two open houses, magnet schools often hold more, during the mid-November until mid-December time period. The complete schedule of open houses will be online in mid-October and also will be available at the Fairs in November.
KINDERGARTEN WELCOME SESSION
There are three Welcome Sessions planned so parents can learn more about what to expect in kindergarten. Sessions are January 12 and 19 and March 9 from 6:30 until 8:00 pm at the DPS Staff Development Center, 2107 Hillandale Road.
It is important for parents to know that magnet applications will be online on Monday, January 4. Application deadline is Friday, January 29.
