Changes to Charge Limits for School Lunches

The Board of Education recently revised Child Nutrition Services Policy 6530 which permits students without money to charge meals based on established limits.  The change in the policy will provide oversight and accountability of outstanding student meal balances.

Beginning January 3, 2011, charge limits will be set at $8.00 for elementary and middle students and $4.00 for high school students.  Students who surpass the limit will be provided an alternative meal: cheese toast and juice for breakfast and a sandwich and juice for lunch.  If the student’s account already exceeds the limits, the child will begin receiving an alternative meal on January 3, 2011.
