Veteran educator named Jordan High School principal

Christenbury, a 30-year veteran of public education in North Carolina, has been appointed principal of Jordan High School. He replaces Rodney Nelson, who is now Executive Director of Human Resources for Durham Public Schools. Christenbury is currently the principal of Vance High School in Charlotte. Prior to that he was principal of Culbreth Middle School in Chapel Hill for five years. Before his Culbreth appointment he served for three years as principal in elementary and high schools in Elizabeth City, and served as an assistant principal at North Mecklenburg and West Charlotte High Schools in Charlotte for seven years prior. He also brings 15 years of classroom and coaching experience at the middle and high school levels to the position. “Jordan High School enjoys a stellar reputation as one of the premier high schools in the state and the nation,” said Christenbury. “I cannot wait to work with the students, parents, teachers and the entire Jordan community of support as we build on the extraordinary programs and services the school features.” Christenbury earned an M.A. in Educational Administration and a B.A. in history from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is also a graduate of the Principals’ Executive Program at the UNC-Chapel Hill’s Institute of Government. “David Christenbury brings to Jordan High School a masterful background in secondary education,” said Superintendent Ann T. Denlinger. “His proven record of success will serve as a perfect match for the Jordan community.”
