Two Durham Public Schools Employees Win Top Honors

North Carolina Association for the Gifted and Talented awards Beth Cross (Office of Advanced Academics) and Diana Lisle (Club Boulevard Elementary)

Durham, NC – Friday, March 18 was a day of celebration for Durham Public Schools. Two DPS employees were recognized by the North Carolina Association of Gifted and Talented (NCAGT).

Beth Cross, DPS Director of Advanced Academics, was named NCAGT School Administrator of the Year.

This award is presented to administrators who have been advocates and leaders in support of gifted children/youth.

“Beth Cross is a shining star for our school district,” said Superintendent Eric Becoats. “I’m excited about the future of our AIG program. It is in very capable hands.”

Diana Lisle, Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) teacher at Club Boulevard Elementary, was awarded NCAGT Teacher of the Year.

This award is presented to teachers of gifted children/youth who exhibit a strong commitment to gifted education through professional experiences, professional organizations, and service in the area of gifted education.

“Diana is a wonderful and very creative teacher,” said Club Boulevard Elementary Principal Micah Copeland. “She is passionate about finding creative ways to ensure students achieve great success.”

NCAGT is an organization of teachers, parents, other educators, and community leaders who foster a better understanding of the needs and capabilities of academically/intellectually gifted children.

Beth and Diana were awarded plaques commemorating their achievements. They will be recognized by the DPS Board of Education at its March 24 meeting. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Fuller Building, 511 Cleveland Street.

Additionally, Durham Partners for the Advancement of Gifted Education (PAGE) was selected as PAGE Chapter of the Year. Connie Vance was on hand to receive the award.
