The new school year is upon us…

DPS is gearing up for an exciting new year that begins Thursday, August 25!
Durham, NC – School is in the air! Buildings have been cleaned. Supplies are in place. Teachers are busy preparing their classrooms and planning lessons. Parents are talking to their children about the importance of getting the school year off to a great start.
It is indeed that time of year when students and teachers are excited about their new classes, making new friends and acquiring new knowledge. Durham Public Schools has been working hard to prepare for its 32,500 expected students.
Superintendent Eric Becoats will be visiting schools on the morning of Thursday, August 25 and the media is invited to join him for photo opportunities and interviews. He will be at the following schools:
7:45 – 8:30 Riverside High – 3218 Rose of Sharon Road
8:45 – 9:30 Githens Middle – 4800 Old Chapel Hill Road
9:45 – 10:30 Forest View Elementary – 3007 Mt. Sinai Road
10:45 – 11:30 Morehead Elementary – 909 Cobb Street
Additionally, important changes are being implemented with regards to school calendar, discipline policies, new schools opening, volunteer registration, English Language Learners, transportation, child nutrition and End-of-Course testing.
