Spencer will lead Carrington Middle School

CONTACT: Rodney Nelson, Assistant Superintendent Human Resource Services, 560-2353DURHAM—Julie Spencer has been named Principal of Carrington Middle School. She replaces James Key, who was recently named Principal of Riverside High School.
Spencer has been assistant principal at Northern High School since 2001. Prior to that, she was an assistant principal at Carrington Middle School, and principal intern at Orange High School in Orange County Schools, and a middle school teacher for several years, also in Orange County Schools.
“I am honored with the opportunity of serving as principal of Carrington Middle School,” said Spencer. “I look forward to building on the wonderful tradition of success that Carrington has enjoyed.”
Spencer holds a Master’s degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the UNC-Chapel Hill, and is a member of the North Carolina Principal Fellows Alumni Association.
“Julie Spencer is an excellent candidate for the principalship of Carrington Middle School,” said Superintendent Ann T. Denlinger. “I am confident that she will work wonderfully well with the students, teachers, parents, and community supporters as they continue working toward their student achievement goals.”
