Redfearn appointed principal of Lakewood Elementary School

Redfearn appointed principal of Lakewood Elementary School<br />
<br />
DURHAM—Cornelius G. Redfearn, an assistant principal at Hope Valley Elementary School, has been named Principal of Lakewood Elementary School. He replaces Elizabeth Shearer, who was recently appointed Principal of the City of Medicine Academy, which moves out of Southern High School and opens at its own site this fall.<br />
<br />
Redfearn has served as assistant principal at Hope Valley for two years. In this role, he served as an instructional advisor to teachers, benchmark testing coordinator and Positive Behavior Support facilitator.<br />
<br />
Prior to his time at Hope Valley, Redfearn spent a year as an administrative intern at Southern High School. He taught fourth grade at Pearsontown Elementary for five years prior, and was that school’s Teacher of the Year in 2005-06. <br />
<br />
“I am extremely excited about building on the recent successes toward increasing student achievement experienced by Lakewood’s students, teachers, principal and school community,” said Redfearn. “I look forward to working with them as we continue to strive for even greater goals.”<br />
<br />
Redfearn holds both a master’s degree in school administration and educational leadership and a bachelor’s degree in human sciences with a concentration in family relations and child development from North Carolina Central University.<br />
<br />
“Cornelius Redfearn brings energy, enthusiasm and innovative ideas to his role as the new principal of Lakewood Elementary School,” said Superintendent Carl E. Harris. “His vision for the school promises to embolden the significant progress realized under Elizabeth Shearer’s watch.”<br />
