Patterson tapped to lead Powe

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Calvin Dobbins, Associate Superintendent, Administrative Services, 560-3736 DURHAM--Brandon S. Patterson, Assistant Principal of Lakewood Elementary School, has been named principal of E.K. Powe Elementary School. He replaces Elizabeth Shearer, who is now Program Administrator of Hillside High School. Patterson has been Assistant Principal of Lakewood since December 2000. He was previously a Principal Intern at Forest View Elementary School and taught at Riverside High School. He also brings management experience to his position, having worked as a director of the Durham YMCA. "I look forward to the stimulating challenge of extending E.K. Powe’s tradition of excellence," said Patterson. "Powe students have experienced tremendous progress over the last several years, and I intend to work diligently with the students, staff and families to ensure this level of success continues." Patterson holds a master’s degree in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree in English education from South Carolina State University. "Brandon Patterson brings a high level of energy and passion for the education and success of young people to his position as principal of E.K. Powe Elementary School," said Superintendent Ann T. Denlinger. "I am confident in his leadership abilities and in his commitment to working with the E.K. Powe students, faculty and staff toward the goal of furthering Powe’s established upward trend in student achievement." ###
