NC school business professional will head finance division

November 14, 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Calvin Dobbins, Associate Superintendent, Administrative Services, 560-3736 DURHAM--Jennifer S. Bennett, a school business official with the state of North Carolina, has been named Executive Director of Finance for Durham Public Schools. She replaces David Lee, who has accepted a position with Cleveland County Schools. Bennett has served as Director of School Business Services for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction since 2000, where she helped manage the state’s $6.9 billion education budget, comprising both state and federal funds; ensured that all local school districts were in compliance with state and federal regulations; and interpreted state and federal legislation and policies to the public and the media. Prior to that she served as Section Chief in the Reporting and Auditing Section within the School Business division, where she ensured the accuracy and quality of all financial data, and worked in the finance and accounting field in the private sector for a number of years. Bennett has a total of 17 years’ experience in finance and accounting experience. "I look forward to working with Durham Public Schools’ dynamic leadership team" said Bennett. "Moving from the state level to a local school system will afford me the opportunity to work at a level where great things are happening with student achievement." Bennett holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Pennsylvania State University. "Jennifer Bennett will be a wonderful addition to our finance department team as we seek to continually refine our effectiveness and our accountability to the community," said Superintendent Ann T. Denlinger. "Her expertise in her field will serve as an invaluable contribution to our ongoing pursuit of continually increased student achievement." ###
