Long-term Lakeview assistant principal will lead the school

Jeffery M. DockeryDURHAM—Jeffery M. Dockery, Assistant Principal of the Lakeview School, has been named principal of the school.  He replaces Elton O’Neal, principal of Lakeview since its inception in 2000, who is retiring after a 35–year career as a teacher and administrator in Durham Public Schools.

Dockery has been Assistant Principal of Lakeview School since 2002.  Before that he was an assistant principal at a high school in Jones County Schools for four years and a teacher in Beaufort County Schools for one year prior to that.

“I am blessed to have been chosen to lead Lakeview forward and will do everything within my power to ensure that these great learners succeed,” said Dockery. “I want to thank Mr. O’Neal for the guidance he has given me over my tenure here as assistant principal.”

Dockery received a master’s degree in Education Administration from East Carolina University and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Elizabeth City State University.

“Jeff Dockery has a solid background of experience as a Lakeview School administrator and is the perfect choice to fill the enormous void that will be left by Elton O’Neal,” said Superintendent Carl E. Harris. “Having served as assistant principal for six years, he will ensure that the leadership transition is a smooth one and that the students who attend Lakeview are well served.”
